Putting plans into place for success with Help to Grow
Dean Towers, Managing Director of BCS Electrics, joined the Help to Grow: Management programme delivered by Leeds Beckett University in Halifax, in January 2026. In this interview, Dean shares the impact the course has had on BCS Electrics so far.
How did you find out about the Help to Grow programme running in Halifax?
I’m a member of a peer-to-peer group with Paul Kenny, Sales Director at Aquatrust, who has been on the Help to Grow programme at Leeds Beckett. We had a good chat about its benefits and I was hooked from there! Was this your first encounter with LBU?
Yes, and it was a great one. What attracted you to joining the course?
I’m not really an academic person, but I understood that my business was in a position where we could rebirth or continue doing the same as we have always done - and potentially end up in dire straits. I wasn’t about to let that happen and so I joined Cohort 16 and have never looked back. The Halifax Help to Grow: Management cohort with their certificates: Dean is pictured third from the right
What are some of the first changes you have made as a result of the course?
I re-evaluated the direction of the business and how its processes were not as smart as they could be. We have started to push harder on the systemisation, culture and further customer focus, relationships and inclusivity. How did the peer groups and one-on-one mentoring offered on the course support you and which did you find most beneficial?
I believe with the peer-to-peer and the mentoring I have gained clarity and focus along with a strategy. They have helped me with identifying internal short comings and putting plans in place for success. What has been the highlight of the course for you?
I can’t say there has been one highlight - I really enjoyed all elements and the team delivering the course are brilliant. What would you say to someone thinking of signing up for Help to Grow: Management?
Do it, it’s time well spent and will give you lots to think about - from your USPs, to social media and customer perception, adapting and low-hanging-fruit wins. I have referred people to the course and will continue to do so.How has the programme supported your professional development and future plans for BCS Electrics?
It has massively opened my eyes to our potential in an uncertain industry. The Research And Enterprise Team
