Since graduating with a Master’s degree in Health and Safety, I have been dedicated to fostering safe and productive work environments as a Health and Safety Advisor for a Subsea Engineering firm when offshore, onshore or in the office. My journey in this field has been both challenging and rewarding, allowing me to apply my academic knowledge to real-world situations.

My role has involved conducting thorough risk assessments, site inspections, and audits to identify potential hazards and recommend effective control measures. I have also been opportune to deliver engaging training sessions and workshops, educating employees on safety best practices and fostering a culture of safety awareness. Working closely with management and other departmental colleagues, I have successfully resolved numerous safety issues, enhancing overall workplace safety and efficiency.

I am enthusiastic about continuing my journey in health and safety, dedicated to making a positive impact in every workplace I am a part of.

What have been the highlights and challenges of your career so far?

Being a Health and Safety Advisor has been an enriching journey filled with highlights and challenges. One of the most memorable moments was my first offshore trip, traveling by helicopter and surfer boat. Achieving project milestones and seeing the smiles on the faces of team members was a truly rewarding experience.

However, working with people from diverse backgrounds presents challenges, but it's also an opportunity. It has helped me develop strong people management and communication skills, which are essential for promoting a safety culture. Navigating these differences with patience and understanding has strengthened my professional relationships.

Ensuring compliance with ever-evolving safety regulations in different countries is another demanding aspect. Staying updated with industry trends and legal requirements is crucial. Despite the challenges, the role is immensely rewarding, offering daily opportunities to make a positive impact and grow professionally.

Balancing these highlights and challenges makes being a Health and Safety Advisor both demanding and fulfilling.
