Worldwide Roar is an innovative, immersive project which fuses social activism and mass participation art to empower sportsmen as agents of change for LGBTQ+ and gender equality and better male mental health. Over the next 18 months, using a range of innovative qualitative methods, the team will be conducting a study to capture participant experiences before, during and after their contribution to the Worldwide Roar’s annual naked calendar and other online content.

The project builds on an ongoing working relationship with Worldwide Roar / Sport Allies which began in 2016 and has to date involved two pieces of research produced by Leeds Beckett and Calgary respectively: a qualitative study into participant ethos and experiences of the Worldwide Roar by Dr. Kehler and a report authored by Adam Lowe and Prof. Gough on the current research regarding Homophobia, Gender and Sporting Culture, which was launched at the House of Commons.

The team will post updates as the study progresses and have high hopes for the work itself and the benefits it will have for the future of Worldwide Roar.
