Racism in Sport
Dan Kilvington appeared on Sky Sports News and ITV News discussing racism in cricket (and sport/society generally). You can watch a segment of the live Sky Sports interview here.
Dan was invited to deliver a session on anti-racist coaching with Birmingham City FC’s academy staff. The session focused on some of his recent research and offered coaching staff guidance on inclusion and diversity.
Dan invited Sport England’s Asad Qureshi to speak with his final year ‘Race’, Culture, Media students about inclusion and football. Asad spoke of his experiences in the ‘beautiful game’, highlighted barriers and offered solutions to help increase diversity.
Black History
Rob Burroughs has recently appeared twice at the Black History Zoom Sessions organised by Learning Links International. On Friday 16th July Rob spoke alongside Prof Charlotte Williams OBE on black history in Wales. On Friday 26th November Rob interviewed the Nigerian author Ayodeji Abodunde on his latest historical research.
Conference reading
On Friday 3rd December Rob Burroughs presented a paper titled 'Ethiopian Progressives Unbound: The Ethiopian Progressive Association of Liverpool, 1904-06' at a conference named 'Colonial and Postcolonial Print Mobilities: Black Periodicals and Local Publications, 1880-present', organised by the Newcastle Postcolonial Research Group in collaboration with the Council of African Studies, Yale University.
