Why Leeds Beckett was the best choice I made
The assertion of ‘dreams come true’ always bangs in the thoughts, until this comes to a reality. Securing an academic opportunity to pursue a Masters at Leeds Beckett University was not just that thought, but a carefully considered decision that aligned with my personal and academic aspirations. Leeds Beckett University, stood out among a sea of choices for several key reasons that I believed would change the trajectory and shape of my future. I'm Iryn and today I'm going to talk about why Leeds Beckett continues to be the right choice.
Industry-focused
First, Leeds Beckett University is renowned for its industry-focused approach to academics spheres. As a student coming from Africa, to be specific Kenya, I am keenly aware of the growing need for graduates who not only possess theoretical knowledge in their respective fields of specializations, but also the pragmatic aspects required to excel in today’s ever-changing global job market.
The courses offered by Leeds Beckett University, are designed in consultation with industry professionals, with surety that, the education provided is both relevant and up-to-date with market standards. This hands-on learning approach is a stark contrast to some traditional African institutions where the focus remains heavily on theory. For my case, I wanted to seek a deeper understanding on Public Relations strategies, and Communications and I was spoilt for choice in Leeds Beckett where I had the option to pursue Masters in International Communications, Global Communications or Public Relations and Strategic Communications, which I went for the latter.
Connections and support
Secondly, the university’s global outlook was a major attraction to me. Leeds Beckett University, boasts of a diverse student population from over 100 countries, creating a rich multicultural environment. Coming from Kenya, a country with a vibrant but varied cultural tapestry, I was keen on studying in a setting that embraces diversity and global perspectives. This experience was to not only broaden my worldview but also enhance my intercultural communication skills; an asset thriving in today’s interconnected global village.
Another consideration, was the strong support international students get from this great institution. Leeds Beckett provides comprehensive services to ensure that international students feel welcomed and supported throughout their academic journey. From visa assistance to language support programs, Leeds Beckett University stands out compared to other universities, I checked out in the UK, some of which had limited resources for international students.
Doing the things I love
Leeds Beckett’s vibrant campus life, located in the heart of Leeds, offers the perfect blend of academic rigor and social engagement. The city of Leeds itself is a bustling hub of innovation and culture, offers numerous opportunities for internships, networking, and career growth, making it the ideal location for a student like me who is looking to make the most out of my university experience here in the UK.
As a Christian believer, I also checked the Christian Union body offered within the universities, and for Leeds Beckett University, it had an impressive Christian community that attracted me. Leeds Beckett University is located within the city centre of Leeds, where there are numerous denominational churches across the city and so this meant that I would grow spiritually in faith.
Last but not least
Lastly, of great attraction, was the university’s commitment to sports and wellbeing. Leeds Beckett’s has a wide array of sports offerings that caters for diverse categories, including those physically challenged persons. These include; football, rugby, and basketball, athletics, swimming, and martial arts. The university also has state-of-the-art facilities, such as its renowned modern gymnasiums, playing fields, and specialized training centres. This sold out on my end, for I knew, I will be physically fit and also get to train and perfect my skills in the course of my academic year. I also knew I’d get a chance to engage with other students in the physical activities as I create new friendships.
Without leaving out the Leeds Kirkgate market and other African and intercontinental markets around Leeds Beckett University that provide the best cuisines, was another element.
In all aspects, Leeds Beckett University presented itself as the perfect ideal and my go-to-institution that would wholesomely prepare me for a successful and impactful future both at individual and global level.
