Tiled background

I chose Leeds Beckett University largely because of the sports scholarship I was awarded, as well as the opportunity to complete my Master’s degree in a shorter time frame while still having the freedom to travel. These factors made Leeds Beckett an ideal choice for both my academic and personal goals.

The teaching style was a little different from what I was used to, but overall my lecturers were incredibly supportive and helpful. Adjusting to a new academic environment took some time, but knowing that my lecturers were approachable and willing to help made the transition much smoother. So far, my favourite module has been Marketing Metrics. This module really stood out to me because it gave me a clear understanding of what the job I want to pursue actually involves. It helped bridge the gap between theory and real-world application, making the learning experience feel relevant and practical. My course has helped prepare me for my future career by offering modules that simulate real working environments. One class in particular treated me like a true employee, giving me a project to complete that reflected the expectations of the industry. This experience was incredibly valuable in helping me understand what lies ahead professionally.

Moving to the UK and settling into life in Leeds was definitely a challenge at first. It was a big change, but it also brought new experiences and challenges that pushed me to grow as a person. Living in a new country helped me become more independent and adaptable, both academically and personally. As an international student, I felt supported by the university through initiatives such as international student social events and access to help whenever I felt homesick. These opportunities made it easier to connect with others and feel more at home in a new environment.

For other international students considering studying here, my advice would be to make friends who can help you navigate life in Leeds. Be open to new experiences and try everything you can, whether it’s something big or something small. Those moments really shape your experience. What I love most about living in Leeds is the student life. The city truly feels like a university town, full of students and energy, which makes it an exciting place to live and study. One of my favourite times of year is Christmas, when the city centre becomes especially lively and enjoyable. Making friends and getting involved in student life was easier than I expected. I was fortunate to live with great people who welcomed me into their friendship group, which helped me settle in quickly and feel connected.

Alongside my studies, I was also part of the student marketing team at Leeds Beckett, which allowed me to gain hands-on experience and further develop skills relevant to my career. After graduation, I plan to move back to the United States and find a job in my field. Looking back, my experience at Leeds Beckett has been a great life experience that has taught me a lot, not only about the world, but also about myself. One of my proudest moments has simply been finishing my degree, which represents all the hard work and perseverance throughout my studies.
