Admission Interview Guidance
Thank you for your interest in our BA Hons Primary Education Accelerated course (X322). The information provided here will assist you in preparing for your interview and will give you an idea of what to expect.
Do remember that an interview is a two way process and that you should treat the interview as an opportunity to ask the course team questions.
Please read the information below carefully. The information will help you prepare for an interview for a place on a course studying Primary Education (Accelerated Degree) at Leeds Beckett University.
Please consider the following questions before your interview:
- Why do I want to study the course?
- Why do I want to work in education or become a teacher?
- Short notes, detailing any work experience in education or beyond.
- Am I able to commit to a fast-track 2 year degree, with campus attendance of 3 days per week?
- Any questions for the course team about the degree, university or life in Leeds.
The date and start time of the selection session have been agreed by you and confirmed via email.
Your interview will be held online using MS Teams. If you haven’t received the link prior to your interview, please check your spam/junk emails first and then contact us on 0113 8123113. Please check that your contact details, including telephone number, are correct on your application form.
Access to MS Teams will differ depending on the type of device you will be using. If you will be using a desktop computer or laptop to attend your interview, you should be able to attend simply by clicking on the link sent out via email. If you are using a smart phone or tablet you will need to download the free MS Teams app prior to your interview date before being able to access the given link. If you have a headset, we advise that it is used with the device you will be logging into the interview with.
You will be required to have your camera turned on during your interview, so please check this is working prior to your interview.
If there is a genuine reason why you are unable to attend at your allocated date/time please contact ucasadmissions@leedsbeckett.ac.uk and we will do our best to find an alternative date/time. However, due to high demand it may not be possible to reschedule your interview.
Successful candidates must show that they are able to:
o Demonstrate that they have the intellectual, personal and presentational qualities to become an effective teacher or member of the wider education workforce
o Communicate clearly and concisely in spoken and written Standard English
o Display a commitment to the welfare of all children
o Display a commitment to developing their knowledge of general educational issues and debates
You will be asked questions about:
o What interests you about taking this course?
o How does this course align with your career aspirations or future plans?
o Do you have any experience of working or volunteering in an education setting?
o This is a fast-paced course that takes place over two years. How do you manage your time? How do you keep motivated?
o Why do you think an accelerated course is right for you?
You will be notified of the outcome via email.
You can apply to live in University accommodation from February 2024, as long as you have selected Leeds Beckett University as your firm choice. Further details about the accommodation the University has to offer and how to apply can be found on our website:
We will send you further details in the summer about completing a DBS (formerly Criminal Record Bureau) enhanced check and the occupational health screening questionnaire. The health screening process will establish your immunisation status. Once you have started the course, you will receive any additional immunisations needed to comply with the requirements of healthcare professionals.
