Your course is delivered through a number of modules, which will help you to plan your time and establish a study routine. Outside of your lectures, workshops and tutorials, a range of support is available to assist with your independent study. Our subject-specific librarians will be on hand to direct you to the specialist learning and study-skill resources. What you'll learn
Gain an awareness of the economic environment that modern businesses operate in. This module will give you an understanding of the principle economic perspectives and theories relating to the operation of the global economy. You'll study important worldwide macro-economic issues as you investigate key global markets, economies, and challenges.
Become familiar with key marketing principles and appreciate how contemporary marketing concepts are used by organisations. You’ll gain an insight into modern marketing challenges and the consequences for organisations if they fail to become customer orientated. This module will help you develop your skills to analyse business environments and successfully apply appropriate marketing mixes and strategies to achieve organisational goals. You’ll learn how to set your organisation apart from others and build a loyal customer base.
Examine how managers can understand and use different financial information to make informed decisions. You'll consider how different shareholders can use financial statements as a means of assessing a firm's performance. To solidify your understanding, you’ll gather and analyse information from published annual accounts of a Public Limited Company, identifying its financial position and main policies. By the end of the module, you’ll be able to effectively use and recommend accounting techniques and tools to evaluate investment opportunities.
The bond and evolution of data, analytics, and commercial application has rapidly changed the way in which businesses operate. This includes the way they make money, sell services and products, measure success, invest in sustainable people and business practices and the ethical impact decisions have on society. This module will introduce you to the technical terminology needed to understand and confidently explore business data, analytics, and tools. You'll explore the wider context of business information, data types and characteristics, the role of the Internet of Things (IoT), big data and the impact on individuals and society. You'll also understand how to use digital tools practically to produce an accurate narrative of findings.
Get stuck into the people side of business. Studying four main themes, you’ll cover: motivation, management, leadership and teams. You'll look at these within the context of culture, political environment, global working and intercultural competence. Not only will you gain a strong understanding of leadership and managing people, but you’ll also become a critical thinker able to articulate the skills you can offer future employers.
What you'll learn
Examine complex businesses and organisations to determine how its operations and supply chain produce competitive advantage and improve performance. You will use a range of real-life scenarios along with qualitative and quantitative data to understand, apply and analyse concepts and principles from the field.
Study the key concepts necessary for practising responsible management in business. You will use a range of authentic scenarios to practise making decisions and to learn through the context, values and critical reflection of your practice. You will apply your learning to keys areas of the business environment.
Gain HR skills relevant to anybody working in a role with line management responsibility through a range of hands-on individual and group activities.
Build creative solutions to the sustainability challenges facing contemporary new business enterprises. You'll work collaboratively to develop a proposed ethical small business venture. This could be articulated through a number of contexts, for example, a product or service, process, paradigm, position or business. You'll then attempt to raise crowdfunding finance by presenting your proposal to an ethical investment bank.
Examine and evaluate the role of marketing within an entrepreneurial setting and its contribution to the achievement of business goals together with the development and implementation of entrepreneurial marketing actions.
Develop an understanding of key aspects of corporate finance and investigate the legal and governance framework within which businesses operate.
What you'll learn
Apply your learning to a strategic organisational issue of your choice. You will develop and manage a client-consultant relationship, and work in a group supported by a member of staff deliver outcomes for the client using the relevant academic knowledge, skills and critical thinking.
Learn to apply and use professional project management tools and techniques as you develop your transferable skills. You'll study and use a range of principles, tools and techniques that assist project managers in ensuring that plans are delivered on time, to the right standard and to budget. Become adept in project management software as you plan and develop projects as part of your assessments using programs like Microsoft Project App. You'll also learn to appraise project proposals for a range of contexts and review ongoing or completed projects in terms of its feasibility, covering financial, sustainability and risk perspectives.
Gain a critical understanding of organisations as a whole. We'll consider topics such as the business environment, strategic capabilities and purpose of organisations, and the importance of culture as a driver of strategy. You'll learn to distinguish between business and corporate levels of strategy, and the dilemmas that come with innovation, mergers and internationalism. Throughout the module, you'll develop the skills, knowledge and understanding to critically analyse, benchmark and evaluate any organisation from a strategic perspective. Upon completion, you'll be able to contribute to the strategies of any organisation by working with complex real-life business problems.
In an era of increasing competition and turbulent operating environments, innovation and change are often key to an organisation's survival. You'll study a range of notable contemporary issues related to the significance of innovation, the implications for organisational structure and processes, leadership, strategic management and change management. This module will build on and extend your understanding of strategic management issues and how to lead innovation and change effectively.

You will demonstrate a full range of skills, knowledge, and competencies developed over three years of study. This module provides an opportunity for you to choose and explore a field of study that has particularly engaged your interest.
Apply your academic knowledge and professional experience by undertaking the creation and management of a new business, either individually or as part of a team. This module will be delivered in collaboration with professional mentors, and investors and will add real-life value to your CV.
Study the theory and application of reward management. You will explore and evaluate various solutions to reward issues within the broader contexts of HRM and corporate strategy.
Understand branding, consumer relationships with brands and the brand management process in a dynamic, highly competitive and global operating environment. You'll gain an appreciation of the strategic role branding and brand management plays in achieving an organisation's goals. You'll also cover the theoretical side of branding, bringing these concepts to life throughout the module. We'll take a deep dive into the characteristics, importance and value successful brands have to organisations, consumers and society. By the end of the module, you'll be able to critically analyse, evaluate and apply a range of specialist and contemporary brand-related approaches to support brand activity.
Innovation and entrepreneurship are key drivers in the global economy. In the ever-changing world of work, both have grown and will continue to grow. This module aims to develop your understanding of the challenges in setting up and developing entrepreneurial business opportunities in today's global economy. We'll increase your awareness of the ways globalisation impacts how entrepreneurs are able to develop business ideas, set-up a business and successfully operate it. You'll also explore contemporary issues in enterprise and entrepreneurship leadership.
Uncover the dirty secrets of tax havens and how they disrupt the global economy as you explore the secretive world of financial crimes. Corruption has disastrous effects on the economy and is often intertwined with war, conflict and instability. You'll gain an understanding of the dynamic and flexible nature of corruption, thinking about how it has evolved over time and on a global scale. You'll also discover the role accountants, auditors, technology, investigative journalism and social society hold in revealing financial crimes. Finally, you'll build your skills to review the current response to corruption and critically discuss the shortcomings of those approaches.
Work placements give you exposure to the real industry environments you can expect to go into after you graduate. As part of this module, you'll apply for and undertake a paid placement - typically for a full academic year - between your second and third year. This gives you the chance to use the knowledge and skills you've developed during the first two years of your course while developing transferable employability competencies. You'll have the opportunity to build business contacts in your network and gain an understanding of the roles available to you within the careers market.
Leaders spend significant amounts of time managing the human resource needs of their staff and aligning this strategically with an organisation’s requirements. In this module, you'll learn how the approaches to leadership and behaviour of leaders are considered as they strive to support staff needs in fast-changing environments. Together, we'll evaluate the role of leadership practice in the implementation of strategic human resource management in organisations. We'll also consider the impact of this on those being managed and on organisational outcomes.
Gain an understanding of key theoretical concepts that support global and international marketing and learn to apply these concepts in a practical way to case studies and exercises that feature live companies and current developments. You will develop the tools required to make a valuable contribution to any organisation that operates in, or plans to develop non-domestic markets.
This module focuses on the area of supplier development in procurement. You'll identify the key factors impacting procurement and investigate the different theoretical models of supplier relationship management. You'll then look at how these models can be used to plan for supplier development activities and improve the competitiveness of the overall supply network.
Explore and analyse corporate responsibility and sustainability as international phenomena and a global political, economic and societal discourse.
This course offers the opportunity to take a ‘placement’ year – a year of paid employment in industry which will build your skills and experience. This is usually taken between the second and third year of your degree and will extend the length of your course by an additional year.
Students who choose the placement route find it helps with both their studies and getting a job after graduation. It can build your confidence, contacts, and of course your CV. Leeds Beckett advertise lots of placement opportunities and provide support in helping you find the right placement for you.
