Advanced Neonatal Care - Intensive and High Dependency Care

CPD modules are designed for practitioners working with health and social care clients. For admission to the module, you will usually be required to provide evidence of the successful completion of 120 credits (or equivalent) at the appropriate level in a relevant area / discipline either level 5 (Dip HE) for level 6 (degree) study or at level 6 (BScH/BAH) for level 7 (masters) study.

You must also:

• Be a Registered Nurse (Adult or Child branch) or Midwife currently working in the Neonatal speciality
• Be able to evidence a minimum of 75 clinical practice hours over 2 years, caring for both Level 1 patients (requiring neonatal intensive care) and Level 2 patients (requiring high dependency care)
• Have evidence of meeting the standards for Qualified in Speciality Foundation (QiSF) through completion of a foundation programme

Students will be assessed against level 6 or level 7 academic criteria on the following:

• Oral case presentation focusing on a case study from clinical practice in ITU
• Neonatal national capability document signed from practice

This module aims to give students the opportunity to:

• Develop knowledge of anatomy, physiology and the pathophysiology affecting infants within the neonatal ITU/HDU environment
• Develop clinical knowledge and skills to enable high quality evidence based effective neonatal nursing care to be delivered, including supporting the family and carers on the neonatal unit

The 20 level 6 or level 7 credits you gain from the module can be used for further study towards a Degree or Masters programme.

*The module includes online teaching and learning, digital learning and on hospital site/campus sessions. We therefore require you to have access and the ability to use MS Teams. You must have access to a PC/laptop/device that has access to the internet and has sufficient memory and software to run MS Teams. It is recommended that this is run via the App rather than in a web browser. You will need to have practiced using this app and be able to use your webcam.
