Real-life experience
Your studies will be informed and delivered by people from all areas of the fashion industry, and you’ll work on live briefs set by real clients. You could also complete a year in industry as part of the course. If you choose this route, you’ll gain invaluable experience of fashion communication and content in real world settings. Your placements allow you to build your experience and contacts. They'll also help you decide what you want to achieve when you graduate.

Your course is delivered through a number of modules, which will help you to plan your time and establish a study routine. Outside of your lectures, workshops and tutorials, a range of support is available to assist with your independent study. What you'll learn
This module introduces creative and practical approaches within your specialist area of fashion. You'll explore and experiment with iterative processes to generate ideas, solve problems, and develop confidence in visual, written, and oral communication. As you begin to shape your practice, you'll also consider wider social, cultural, and economic concerns that inform ethical and sustainable ways of working. Research will be introduced as a vital component of creative practice, helping you learn how to gather, interpret, and apply information effectively. Through this work, you'll build an awareness of key influences, contexts, and debates relevant to your subject, and begin to position your practice in relation to them.
In this module, you'll build on the skills developed in your previous study by exploring new ways of working with techniques, materials, and media. You'll be encouraged to experiment, take creative risks, and develop greater confidence in your ideas and decision-making. Research will continue to play a key role in your learning. You'll explore how gathering and analysing evidence can give weight to your ideas and strengthen your creative work. You'll investigate the cultural, ethical, and sustainable concepts that shape your discipline – and begin to consider how your own practice is influenced by, and responds to, these wider contexts. You'll also refine your ability to communicate your ideas effectively, through written, visual, and verbal presentation. This will help you share your research, process, and outcomes with greater clarity and purpose. You'll continue to connect practical, critical, and contextual thinking with your professional and ethical positioning, demonstrating an informed and responsible approach to your discipline. Through an iterative process, you'll test and refine your ideas, using appropriate techniques and technologies to meet your project aims. You'll articulate your development through process documentation that highlights your creative narrative, media choices, and awareness of environmental and social impact. Your final outcomes will be supported by a digital portfolio that communicates your specialist interests and practice to future collaborators, employers, funders, or clients. This course offers the opportunity to take a ‘placement’ year – a year of paid employment in industry which will build your skills and experience. This is usually taken between the second and third year of your degree and will extend the length of your course by an additional year.
Students who choose the placement route find it helps with both their studies and getting a job after graduation. It can build your confidence, contacts, and of course your CV. Leeds Beckett advertise lots of placement opportunities and provide support in helping you find the right placement for you.
