Study the major challenges facing managers and leaders in sustainability. You’ll look at how to adapt to global changes in markets, competition, and supply on this MBA Sustainability course.
As part of this course, you’ll also:
- Analyse dynamic and complex organisations to develop your understanding of organisational behaviour
- Explore the three pillars of sustainable business – social, environmental and economic – and how you can adapt your policies and practices to strengthen the future success of your organisation
- Learn how to integrate sustainability into all areas of your organisation, from finance and logistics to human resources, marketing and business strategy
- Investigate national and international issues across a range of industries and sectors
- Work alongside students from around the world to gain a global business perspective
- Identify how organisations adapt their business interactions in fluctuating global economic and political landscapes
- Take part in group presentations, management role-play and operations and logistics management simulation
- Undertake practical exercises in measuring and implementing sustainability, which will help you to stand out to potential employers

Selection Criteria
We may use selection criteria based on your personal attributes; experience and/or commitment to the area of study. This information will be derived from your personal statement and reference and will only be used if you have met the general entry requirements.
Independent study is a crucial part of learning at university and you will be required to undertake many hours of self-directed research and reading, and preparation and writing of assessments. Your course is delivered through a number of modules, which will help you to plan your time and establish a study routine. Outside of your lectures, workshops and tutorials, a range of support is available to assist with your independent study. Our subject-specific librarians will be on hand to direct you to the specialist learning and study-skill resources. You’ll also be assigned an academic advisor to give you tailored feedback and support.
Modules, teaching and learning
What you'll learn
Study the strategic planning involved in developing sustainable marketing campaigns and gain an awareness of the major principles of sustainable marketing. During this module, you'll discover the need to build up long-term, trusting relationships with various stakeholder groups in an age of increasing criticisms of sustainability. You'll examine how sustainable development-appropriate tools and frameworks can improve strategies that support organisational reputation from a sectoral, national and global perspective. The module will also provide a foundation for further specialisation in this discipline.
Study a range of operations and logistics management techniques. You'll take a comprehensive approach to managing operational resources and associated supply chain management principles. You'll develop critical thinking and decision making for operational and logistical aspects of an enterprise. This module will enable you to understand strategies for planning and co-ordination in a supply chain.
This module has been developed around Quinn and Rohrbaugh's Competing Values Framework. You'll study the major indicators of effective organisations and the two major dimensions underlying conceptions of effectiveness: organisational focus and organisational preference for structure. You'll learn how to use the framework to critique leadership effectiveness.
Build your critical understanding of the main theories, techniques and debates which inform contemporary approaches to business strategy. You'll learn to evaluate challenges and make decisions that managers are faced with in complex and dynamic environments. To achieve this, you'll combine multiple perspectives of business and management such as leadership, creativity and human capital, finance and environmental analytics, creativity and strategic thinking.
Critically analyse the key concepts of integrated reporting in the context of the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). You’ll understand how measurement and integrated reporting of sustainability can be used to provide the information needed by key stakeholders, and to improve decision making, reputation, transparency and trustworthiness. This module will provide you with a basis on which you can build your knowledge and expertise in this area.

In today's data-driven era, organisations need to harness the power of AI to extract valuable insights, automate tasks, and make informed decisions. This module addresses the growing demand for professionals, who possess a strong foundation in both business management and AI, to drive digital transformation and stay competitive in an increasingly AI-driven business environment. You'll focus on the practical application of AI techniques to enhance efficiency, effectiveness, and decision-making within organisations. You'll develop a deep understanding of the potential of AI in transforming various business processes. Additionally, you'll gain hands-on experience in utilising AI tools and methodologies.
This module will explore the special characteristics of human resource management (HRM) in the multinational corporations. You'll consider convergence and continuing divergence in the HRM structures, policies and practices of different countries. You'll focus on applying theory and principles in dealing with the complexities of international HRM issues.
Examine global business strategy perspectives for organisations and key actors. This module will address the strategic and management issues that multinational, global and other organisations face whilst operating across borders. You'll review the main aspects of operating globally, from strategic analysis to issues of formulation and implementation in the various business functions. You'll also analyse the key strategic and managerial challenges for firms. You'll gain the knowledge and skills to develop and implement business strategies within a variety of organisational and geographical settings. To achieve this, you'll study how managers can use a variety of analytical tools to craft a strategy to help the organisation gain and maintain its competitive advantage and achieve its objectives. You'll be introduced to the language, analytical tools, frameworks and normative models of strategic management. You'll consider strategy from various organisational settings, including public and not-for-profit. You'll understand the 'why', 'what', 'where' and 'how' of strategy.
Examine the elements, processes and techniques involved in the development and implementation of professional practices for managing for sustainability, responsibility and ethics. You'll evaluate decision-making in complex and dynamic environments and explore the concepts of professional management in a critical way. This module focuses on the practical application of conceptual frameworks for professional management to gain optimum effect.
Understand the role branding and brand management play in today’s dynamic and highly competitive marketing environment. You'll study branding, consumer relationships with brands and the brand management process in a dynamic and global operating environment.
Develop a strong understanding of strategic marketing concepts that you'll then apply to several marketing contexts and/or case studies. This module will reinforce your understanding of the application and limitations of strategic marketing models in management decision making. You'll prepare an in-depth customer analysis which focuses on a global marketing setting, demonstrating your knowledge by making recommendations to leverage competitive advantage and secure enterprise growth.
