Yorkshire Women's Sport Collective
This event aims to connect and inspire women working in the sports sector in Yorkshire.

You are invited to join us for the Yorkshire Women’s Sport Collective "Women in Sport Showcase and Meet Up". The Women’s Sport Collective is an inclusive, collaborative network for women working in the sports sector with an ambition to see a gender equal sports industry.

Speakers

Annette Stride is a Reader in the Carnegie School of Sport and Theme Lead for Identities and (In)equalities in the Centre for Social Justice in Sport and Society. Annette's research is underpinned by a social justice agenda and typically focuses upon how gender intersects with other identity markers to influence the opportunities and experiences of a diversity of women and girls.

Leanne Norman is a Professor of Sport Management and Director of the Centre of Social Justice in Sport and Society, the first Centre of its kind within the UK, within the Carnegie School of Sport at Leeds Beckett University in the UK. She is internationally recognised for her work in advancing gender equity in sports leadership and organisations. The focus of the research Leanne leads is on improving the coaching and leadership pathways for diverse social groups, principally, different groups of women. Leanne has led national and international research projects for sport governing bodies as well as acted as academic expert and consultant for sport councils, organisations, and charities. The research her team leads was recently assessed by Research England (REF audit, 2021) as having internationally leading research impact and awarded the highest grading for impact (4*). In addition, Leanne has written extensively for academic and practitioner textbooks, written educational resources for practitioners and organisations, and has published widely in academic journals on the topic of gender equity in sport organisations.

Lynne Preston has been a member of the Women's Sport Collective for a number of years and currently coordinates the Yorkshire group, supporting this meet up and the first in person meet up in October 2023. Lynne's background is in sport development and event management in both the sport and charity sectors. Lynne is currently working as a freelance project manager for two events later this year.

Stacey Emmonds is a Reader in Sports Performance in the Carnegie School of Sport. She leads the football research theme and is the Project Director for the Demand of the Women’s Game Project funded by the FA. Stacey is also an invited member of the UEFA Fitness for Football Advisory Board, holds a consultancy advisory role with UEFA and is the England Women’s U19s fitness coach.

Sue Backhouse is a Professor and Director of Research in the Carnegie School of Sport at Leeds Beckett University. Her research interests span integrity and welfare issues in sport.
