Talented students named as winners of Claire Mascall PR Prize 2017
The annual award, in memory of a former leading PR executive Claire, is open to all Public Relations students at Leeds Beckett, and involves a challenge where the undergraduates get the opportunity to showcase their knowledge, skill and talent.
This year’s top prize-winner, BA (Hons) Public Relations with Journalism student Ali Arshad, won a bursary of £675 and a two-week placement at London Communications agency, Golin.
He said: “I am really proud to have won such a prestigious award and happy to see that all my hard work has been recognised and rewarded with such a prize. An award like this is what motivates me to do even more and exceed the expectations I place on myself.
“The opportunity to do a placement at Golin and being able to live in London will allow me to learn the challenges faced in the PR industry and how to overcome them. I am currently on my placement year and I am really enjoying the consumer PR aspect of the agency and this would be a field I would really like to go into in the future.”
The second and third prizes went to BA (Hons) Public Relations with Journalism student, Aiden Nasser, and BA (Hons) Public Relations undergraduate Rosie Heaton, who were both awarded a £250 bursary and placements with MCG PR and Leeds Beckett University’s communications team respectively.
Claire Mascall was a pioneering woman in the field of PR who died in 2006. Claire had a 35-year career in corporate relations that ranged from the nuclear and electricity industries to housing and construction, banking, and finance. She rose to become Head of Corporate Affairs at the London Stock Exchange and Global Head of Corporate Communications at ING Barings before setting up the consultancy Mascall Rimmer & Associates with her husband. Claire’s widower Graham developed the idea of the annual PR prize in Claire’s memory.
