Leading expert to hold Mindfulness Meditation workshop
The interactive workshop will be led by Chartered Psychologist, Dr Elliot Cohen, who has over 20 years of experience in mindfulness-based approaches and has developed the session to help professionals in corporate environments create a better working environment.
During the one-day workshop, which will run on Wednesday 10 May from 11am-5pm at Leeds Beckett University’s City Campus Rose Bowl, Dr Cohen will show the benefits of mindfulness meditation and how this experience can benefit your work and personal life with just a few key changes. He will share practical examples of the issues both you and your organisation face and see how mindfulness can play its part in combatting stress, fatigue and anxiety.
The workshop will include:
- Understanding and recognising stress in the work place
- Simple relaxation techniques
- An introduction to a selection of easy, practical and accessible mindfulness techniques using the posture and breath
- How to enhance awareness and concentration
- Mindfulness, creativity and problem solving
- Using mindfulness to create a positive work environment.
Speaking ahead of the workshop, Dr Cohen, said: “One of the unique properties of the human mind is that we can become aware of our being aware, conscious of our conscious; and in doing so we can actually use our minds to change our minds – transforming and transcending negative psychological states and destructive emotions in the process.
“The workshops will be giving attendees a really thorough introduction to the varieties of mindfulness practice. It will also give participants the opportunity to explore how mindfulness-based approaches can be integrated into our daily lives.”
Leeds Beckett was the first university to include meditation classes as an integral part of its undergraduate courses – the BA (Hons) Psychology and Society, and its postgraduate course – MA Interdisciplinary Psychology.
The cost of the workshop is £65 per person. To book your place, or for more information, email hss-cpd@leedsbeckett.ac.uk or call 0113 812 7306.
