Leeds to Paris cycle for Leeds Beckett student fundraisers
The 14 students, all part of the Leeds Beckett Men’s Hockey club, will attempt the 420 mile ride over five days on 1 June to raise £3,000 for Marie Curie.
Speaking ahead of the challenge, Ollie Lumley, Head of Hockey at Leeds Beckett, said: “This season has been one of the most successful in the club’s history. On the pitch we have had six of our eight teams achieve promotion; off the pitch the club have been working extremely hard to raise money for charity. The season will come to a close under the Eiffel Tower as some of the men will be cycling from Leeds to Paris over a five day period raising money for Marie Curie. I’m extremely proud of everyone in the club this season and the charity work is proof that with the right guidance our students can and will flourish.”
This challenge builds on the back of the team’s 2014 charity event, which saw them complete the Three Peaks Challenge (climbing Ben Nevis, Scarfell Pike and Snowdon in less than 24 hours).
Leeds Beckett Hockey Club secretary Matt Dobson added: “After last year’s challenge we decided to step it up a level and now this year we are cycling from Leeds to Paris. We’re raising money for Marie Curie Cancer Care and have a target of £3000 with 100% of the money raised going to the charity. We are really looking forward to getting in the saddle and raising money for such a deserving charity.”
