Student gamers come together for annual showcase
Over 60 students and staff from Leeds Beckett, the University of Leeds, Sheffield Hallam University, Staffordshire University, University of York and Bradford University will compete and trial each other’s creations at the Games Republic event, held on 7 June.
The showcase of student work will be from 3pm to 5.30pm, with the winners of categories for best Game Art and Animation, Game Technology, Game Design and Best Team announced 6pm to 8.30pm.
Che John, course director in Game Design at Leeds Beckett, said: “We have 19 students nominated for awards this year at the Games Republic event, and there will be 25 final-year games and technology projects from across the universities.
“Each year, the Games Republic Student Showcase provides the opportunity for students to network with industry organisations, other students interested in gaming and with sponsors of the event.
“We are looking forward to hosting the event for the first time since 2013 and seeing what other universities have been working on.”
Over 50 previous winners have secured placements and full-time jobs in the industry following the showcase, with sponsors such as Red Kite Games, Revolution and Sumo Digital.
The event will be held in the Great Hall, James Graham Building, Headingley Campus.
