Leeds Beckett students in action at World Rugby U20 Championship
BA (Hons) Sport Marketing student Max Green starts at scrum-half for England when they take on Italy at the Manchester City Academy Stadium this evening (7.45pm).
As well as studying at our University, Max plays for Yorkshire Carnegie and made nine appearances in the 2016/17 campaign.
He is joined in the match-day squad by flanker and BSc (Hons) Sport & Exercise Science student Josh Bainbridge, who also plays for Yorkshire Carnegie, and takes his place on the replacements bench. BSc (Hons) Sport Marketing student Callum Sheldon is also on the bench for Scotland as they take on Australia at the AJ Bell Stadium in Salford (5.30pm).
Max, Josh and Callum could then go head-to-head in their second Pool B clash of the tournament on Saturday when England and Scotland meet at the Manchester City Academy Stadium.
Both England and Scotland will be hoping to plot a course out of their Pool ahead of the semi-finals on June 20 and final on June 25.
Speaking ahead of the tournament, England Head Coach Martin Haag said: "The boys have really bought into what we are trying to achieve on the field but I'm also really pleased with how they are gelling as a squad off it. When you come together with players and staff from all different rugby backgrounds it can sometimes be hard to gel quickly but we have a real sense of togetherness and an incredible team spirit.”
On their upcoming clash with Australia, Scotland Head Coach John Dalziel said: “We’ve gone for an experienced team, which we feel has the right blend to execute our game plan, as well as dealing with the threats Australia will pose.
“They’re a tight group, who are now ready to get onto the field and represent their country.”
