LBU to be celebrated in new photo project

Leeds Beckett University is set to feature in a new photographic project that will celebrate the city of Leeds.

Love of Leeds is a creative and celebratory photographic project by Jude Palmer that will capture the ‘life of Leeds’, and shine a new light on the city.

The university will be featured in the project, with a focus on its elite athletes, the Carnegie School of Sport Building, and research work taking place.

Events from the world of sport, the celebration of culture, art and music, and important anniversaries will be the main subject of the book & exhibition, set to be printed at the end of 2019.
Among the events featured will be Tour De Yorkshire, UCI World Cycling Championships, Northern Ballet, Leeds Pride, World Cricket at Headingley, World Triathlon, Leeds International Film Festival and more.

Jude will document the behind the scenes of what is happening in Leeds this year; in sport, music, TV, arts, communities, culture, education, film and business, highlighting the overlooked work of organisations.

The project, in which LBU is a partner, was conceived by Jude and Cllr Judith Blake from Leeds City Council at a photographic exhibition by Jude about Leeds Triathlon.

Jude said: “I feel privileged to be working on this ‘Love of Leeds’ project because as I shoot some of the amazing events Leeds hosts, and I capture some of the community projects that show great compassion and inclusivity, I realise just how great this city is.

“The city’s DNA is made up of grit, boldness, creativity and passion, and this book will show all that.”

Cllr Judith Blake, leader of Leeds City Council said: “Love of Leeds is a stand out photographic project which we are delighted to support and work on with Jude.”

“It will shine a light on our progressive city, showing yet again why Leeds has so much diversity, bold character and wonderful organisations which drive our city to be bigger and better than ever.”

The book, Love of Leeds, will be available at the end of 2019.
