Leeds Beckett graduates to perform at Audio & Radio Industry Awards
The star-studded awards ceremony, hosted by DJ and presenter Sara Cox, will treat guests to a spectacular evening of music and celebration, with performances from the Kaiser Chiefs, Gregory Porter and other high-profile artists still to be announced. The awards, the biggest cross-industry celebration of UK radio and audio, are supported by Leeds Beckett University and LeedsBID (Business Improvement District).
Andrew Fryer Dean of The School of Film, Music and Performing Arts, Faculty of Arts, Environment and Technology at Leeds Beckett said: “We are delighted to be supporting the ARIAS and excited to see that the Kaiser Chiefs will be performing, particularly since the band includes two of our own graduates back in their home city. The event will give our students across Music, Filmmaking, Broadcast Media, Journalism, PR and Events some fantastic opportunities to work on a large scale event in a range of roles and will no doubt help to inspire the radio industry talent of the future.”
DJ Sara Cox said: “I can't wait to be part of such a fantastic evening of live music, celebrating the folks who help make radio the thriving, brilliantly eclectic and much-loved entertainment powerhouse it is today.”
The Kaiser Chiefs, one of the most renowned crowd-pleasing act in the UK, have spent the summer playing at sold-out venues from Sao Paolo to Delamere Forest to the London Palladium to Ibiza to Colombia to Cornwall and beyond – and now Leeds. This hometown show will see the band performing all their hits as well as previewing songs from their sixth album Stay Together including Parachute and their new single Hole in my Soul, both of which have already become firm fan favourites.
Also performing will be Grammy-award-winning artist, Gregory Porter, bringing his liquid spirit and velvety voice to this year’s ARIAS. This generation’s most successful jazz artist, Gregory Porter, will perform his latest single ‘Holding On,’ taken from his top 10 album ‘Take Me To The Alley’. He has been playing at sold out venues across the country for his UK tour, including London shows at the Royal Albert Hall and Hammersmith Apollo.
An exclusive after-show party for Radio Academy members will be hosted at the venue with DJ sets from Radio X DJ and Inspiral Carpet member, Clint Boon and the Utah Saints. The Leeds based Utah Saints duo of Tim Utah and Jez Willis, have been making music, DJ-ing and playing gigs around the globe since the birth of house music, with 9 Top 40 UK hits, 4 of which hit the Top 10.
Leeds Beckett’s collaboration with the ARIAS will offer students unprecedented, hands-on experience in staging and promoting the national awards ceremony. Students from courses across film, events and hospitality, sound and lighting and marketing and PR, will work together with The Radio Academy and the Events Company - Esa Live - to stage the event, to be held at the First Direct Arena on Wednesday October 19.
The ceremony, which will seat guests theatre style, will be an inclusive event with tickets priced at just £30 (plus VAT) for Radio Academy members, including pre and post show parties. Non-members can purchase tickets for £30 plus VAT for the awards ceremony only, whilst tickets to attend the ceremony, plus pre and post show parties will be available to purchase by non-members for £100 plus VAT.
