Leeds Business Week events to champion thriving economy
Leeds Beckett staff will be hosting a number of events as part of Leeds Business Week, which will see over 100 business-focused events take place across the city from 17-21 October, in a celebration of the thriving economy that organisations benefit from in the Leeds City Region.
Leeds Business School is one of the main Leeds Business Week sponsors, which is now in its fourth year and is coordinated and managed by business networking group, The Yorkshire Mafia. The week aims to bring together the city’s professionals who can share their thoughts on industry-based topics that could make a difference to the business community in Leeds and across the wider Yorkshire region.
On 18 October, a team from the Retail Institute at Leeds Beckett will deliver a presentation entitled, Beating the Odds: Challenges and opportunities of product development innovation. The workshop will examine the critical factors that are essential for innovators to take into account when developing new products and services – and discuss the challenges of bringing innovations to market.
The team from The Retail Institute will present real case studies to explain the support they have provided to innovation processes for clients, and the types of challenges that working with Leeds Beckett can help solve.
Also on 18 October, Anderson Lima from Leeds Business School will be hosting a workshop entitled Social Selling: How to drive results and increase sales through social engagement. Anderson will be looking at some of the social platforms available to companies and how they can lead to better results in the sales pipeline, improved market position, and can contribute to a company’s overall brand leadership.
On 19 October, Professor Paul Turner will deliver a presentation entitled How to keep your best assets in which he’ll explore how organisations can attract and use the best talent. Professor Turner will draw on his extensive experience of working with global organisations to provide practical guidance for managers seeking to realise the competitive advantage required to succeed. He will discuss innovative and dynamic approaches to recruitment, development and retention of the best people for the business; whilst members of the Leadership Centre at Leeds Beckett will provide an insight into innovative approaches to help create high-performance teams and enable managers to equip themselves with the skills to underpin personal success and for their organisations to survive and thrive.
Other events taking place across the week range from seminars, workshops and networking events. This year sees the return of The Customer Conference and The Festival of Business, where delegates can enjoy up to 25 individual seminars and workshops delivered by industry experts from across the region, including those from PwC, Yorkshire Building Society, Leeds City Council, Blacks Solicitors and Leeds Rhinos Foundation.
Dr George Lodorfos, Dean of Leeds Business School at Leeds Beckett, said: “As the new Dean of Leeds Business School, we are delighted to be involved in such a high profile and important event for the region. I look forward to attending some of the interesting and relevant events and continuing to engage with business and individuals from the region and beyond.”
Chairman of The Yorkshire Mafia Geoff Shepherd, added: “Leeds Business week is all about bringing people together, both from Leeds and the wider district, to share best practice, and ultimately build better business relationships that benefit from each other’s expertise. We’re inviting other Leeds stakeholders to get in touch to see how we might work together to build this fantastic event that serves the city of Leeds so well.”
