Leeds Beckett to support The British Art Show
The British Art Show is a national touring exhibition that provides a vital overview of some of the most exciting contemporary art produced in the UK today, and the eighth British Art Show opens next week in Leeds.
Organised by Hayward Touring at the Southbank Centre, London, and taking place every five years, it introduces a broad public to a new generation of artists. After opening in Leeds Art Gallery, British Art Show 8 will tour to multiple venues across Edinburgh, Norwich and Southampton over the course of 15 months.
The Leeds School of Arts at Leeds Beckett University has a thriving annual visiting lecturer programme and this year are supporting the Tuesday Talks, a series of talks by 12 of the artists in British Art Show 8 including Ryan Gander, Linder and Leeds Beckett alumni, Anthea Hamilton.
The talks will take place every Tuesday at 6pm at Leeds Art Gallery and are open to both Leeds Beckett students and the general public. Following the talks the artists will visit Leeds Beckett University the following day giving students the opportunity to have one-to-one tutorials.
Speaking about the show, Dr Lisa Stansbie, Head of the Leeds School of Arts at Leeds Beckett, said: “This is the first time that this key exhibition, the largest touring exhibition in the UK, has launched in Leeds. It is one amongst many other cultural events that have previously taken place and are upcoming that demonstrate and build on the profile of Leeds as a city of culture.
“The one-to-one tutorials with internationally-renowned artists are a unique feature of this initiative, giving students of the Leeds Beckett Leeds School of Arts an opportunity to gain feedback on their practice from leading practitioners in the field of contemporary art.”
