Student society joins forces with successful graduate
The society partnership is a first for Leeds Beckett and will see students take advantage of free career and employability advice, mentorship, professional networking opportunities and talks and advice from industry experts.
The partnership will build on the existing successful relationship between Corecom and Leeds Beckett which has already led to graduate employment with the consultancy, student placements, and several workshops being held to boost current students’ employability, including guidance on designing online portfolios.
Maria Dobrzanska, Employer Engagement Consultant at Leeds Beckett, explained: “We are delighted to have a local Leeds-based business working in partnership with one of our student societies. Corecom Consulting’s vast experience and knowledge has already contributed to the progression of students here at the University and we are excited to extend our partnership with the company even further, for the benefit of students.”
Jonathan Sanderson, Managing Director at Corecom Consulting and 2006 Leeds Beckett Business Studies graduate, said: “As a graduate it is a real honour for me to give something back to the University and its students. Our company is committed to increasing student employment prospects.
“The importance of developing strong employability skills reaches far beyond fashioning a clear, structured CV. Being able to converse, network and interact with like-minded professionals is invaluable experience, and something that I am confident will benefit Computing Society students a great deal.
“The earlier students start to network with industry professionals, the more likely they are to have a wealth of connections when they start to look for a work placement or embark on their chosen profession. “
Lewis Ford, President of the Leeds Beckett University Computing Society and second year BSc (Hons) Business Information Technology student, added: “Given Corecom Consulting’s leading position within the IT industry, we have access to some of the best resources in the region. The company is recognised as the best at what they do and it shows. They are fully supportive of our aim to enhance student employability.
“Jonathan has demonstrated a real passion for the Society through the partnership and the mentoring he has provided. As a result of this, we’ve had a record number of members sign up to the Society this year.”
Corecom Consulting will be delivering a number of free seminars to Leeds Beckett University students in the coming months, focusing on CV writing, job application advice, creating a winning LinkedIn profile and creative portfolio compilation.
The company also plans to extend its award-winning Boss Event Networking Series to Leeds Beckett University graduates by holding a dedicated networking event for employers and computing graduates in the coming months.
