Get creative in the new year with Leeds Beckett short courses
The courses, which range from one day workshops to 13 day programmes, will be running throughout 2015, beginning in January, with many courses running again up to three times during the year. All courses are run by professional practitioners using industry-standard equipment and facilities.
Film courses include: Camera and Lighting, Avid Editing 101 and Writing the Screenplay; music courses feature a songwriting retreat in Derbyshire, a range of Pro Tools workshops and Advanced Professional Diplomas in Music for Moving Image and Sound Recording for Film and TV; and performing arts courses range from Acting for Film and Television to Finding your Voice.
Courses are designed to enable students to progress – for example it is possible to study Camera and Lighting in January and progress to Cinematography in April. They are ideal for professionals wanting to have their practice recognised with an accreditation, such as an Advanced Professional Diploma, which provides 40 credits towards a Master’s degree, or for dedicated amateurs to develop their passion to a higher level.
Jennifer Granville, Principal Lecturer in the School of Film, Music and Performing Arts at Leeds Beckett, commented: “We are excited to be building on the success of last year’s pilot courses. One of the best things about the pilot courses was the mix of participants that enrolled – we had professional technicians, actors and musicians, teachers, masters students and members of the local community wanting to take their hobby to a higher level; using the opportunity to practise screen performance, try out our fantastic music production studios and engage with the latest film cameras and post-production technology – the place was buzzing!
“As well as bringing back the most successful courses, we have developed a whole new range, based on feedback and suggestions, and we can’t wait for January and the start of the new 2015 courses and workshops."
All courses take place within the School of Film, Music and Performing Arts’ state-of-the-art studio spaces at either the Electric Press in Millennium Square, the City Campus on Woodhouse Lane or at the University’s Headingley Campus.
