Lecture to highlight what makes a business valuable
Hosted by Ian Marwood, Senior Partner at Sentio Partners, the event, ‘Creating shareholder value in the real world: looking beyond the profit numbers’, will be held on Tuesday 22 November at the University’s Rose Bowl building and will run from 6pm-7pm.
It is part of a series of Leeds Business School lectures, sponsored by Yorkshire Bank.
Ian joined Sentio Partners in 2013. Sentio provides strategic advice and specialist corporate finance and transaction support services, across a wide range of industry sectors, to public and private companies, management teams and financial institutions operating in the UK mid-market.
During his career Ian has advised on many types of acquisitions, disposals and buyouts, large and small. He has seen first-hand how entrepreneurs create exciting business, but also the problems they have to overcome to achieve that success.
Paul Houghton, of Leeds Business School, commented: “This lecture will be of particular interest to business owners and budding entrepreneurs. Ian has a wealth of experience in providing strategic and corporate development advice and, as well as talking about what makes a business valuable, he will be drawing on his own career and highlighting business tactics and behaviours.”
After qualifying as a chartered accountant with KPMG, Ian spent several years in their lead advisory team, principally in Yorkshire but also including spells in London and Prague. He joined Grant Thornton in 2002 to build their corporate finance presence in Yorkshire and over the subsequent decade he became one of the leading and most active players in the Yorkshire advisory market. After leaving Grant Thornton he provided strategic and corporate development advice to a number of entrepreneurial Yorkshire businesses
Ian is also a non-executive director at Standard Wool (UK) Limited, the Bradford headquartered international wool trader and processor.
