Dance and Performance students present Winter Platform
The performances will include two choreographed pieces of dance repertoire – ‘Ex Nihilo’ and ‘Life After’ - by renowned industry choreographers Odette Hughes and Vicky Igbokwe who have created work exclusively with our final year dance students. Ex Nihilo is a Latin phrase meaning ‘out of nothing’ or ‘creation out of nothing’.
Odette has worked intensively with our students using ideas and images of deep space to create their own movement material and explore what relationships are formed as they shift and travel.
"Life After" is an exploration of physical ‘Groove’. Vicki utilises urban dance styles with contemporary dance practice and has led students to explore how they might personally connect their emotional history with a choreographed work.
First year students from the ‘Making Dance Work’ module will will present small collaborative works which they have choreographed themselves. There will be a mixture of duets, trios and quartets which will explore and present dynamic relationships with time and space.
‘Embodying Dance Histories’ is another first year module where students will take inspiration from the late German choreographer, Pina Bausch.
‘Quantico Christmas’ will explore our alternate universe where Santa's workshop doubles up as the FBI’s headquarters. It will use an explosion at Quantico as a starting point, and throughout the performance asks the question: Which agent did it?
All performances will take place at the Northern Ballet’s Stanley & Audrey Burton Theatre from 14-15 December.
