Dodgeball and Racket-thon tournament raising money for cardiac charity
The event takes place on Wednesday December 14, with the Racket-thon held between 10am and 1pm and the Dodgeball tournament from 2pm to 4.30pm.
The Racket-thon will see teams of four take on tennis, badminton, table tennis and squash in short, timed matches.
Meanwhile the Dodgeball tournament will pit teams of eight against each other in group stages before they advance to the quarters, semi-finals and final.
Entry is £1 per person, per event while fancy dress is encouraged for those taking part.
Money raised will go to the AU’s chosen charity Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY).
AU executive vice chair Bethany Fenner said: “It’s a cause that is close to the University so it would be good to have a positive impact.
“You are having a great time but you are also doing something good and everybody enjoys themselves.”
Every week in the UK at least 12 young people die of undiagnosed heart conditions. Since its formation in 1995, Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) has been working to reduce the frequency of young sudden cardiac death (YSCD).
CRY supports young people diagnosed with potentially life-threatening cardiac conditions and offers bereavement support to families affected by YSCD. CRY promotes and develops heart screening programmes and funds medical research. CRY publishes and distributes medical information written by leading cardiologists for the general public. CRY funds fast track referral, screening and cardiac pathology services at leading UK hospitals.
