2013 gold medallists return to Chelsea Flower Show
The duo, who run their family landscape architecture business, Rich Landscapes, based near Brecon, Wales, took the gold award in the artisan category at the prestigious annual show last summer for their garden, 'Un Garreg' (one stone). This year, the team are showing the garden 'Vital Earth the Night Sky Garden', which is sponsored by Bord Na Mona.
David explained: "The garden features naturalistic planting to echo the feeling of the Milky Way, with large drifts of white and tones of orange and blue. Dry stonewalls create subtle rooms within the garden and boulders give gravity to the space whilst replicating fallen meteors. Two large circular reflection pools mirror the overhanging planting and sky above and the boundary hedge draws back to reveal the night sky, with scattered copper discs resembling star constellations.
"A light canopy of silver birch trees wander through the space, opening to reveal a grass stargazing pit. Oak-topped benches sit amongst the serpentine stonewalls, creating seating areas. A spiral staircase takes you onto a roof-top platform for viewing the night sky and cobbled stone paths lead you through the space."
David graduated from the BA (Hons) Landscape Architecture and Design course last summer, whilst Harry is a graduate of the same course from 2008.
The RHS Chelsea Flower Show takes place from 20-24 May 2014.
