Leeds Beckett University nominated for two UK Active Awards
Sport & Active Lifestyles Duty Manager, Cassie Ayala, has made a significant impact on continuing to deliver physical activity opportunities for members during the pandemic, which has seen her efforts recognised in the UK Active Physical Hero Award category.
Cassie, alongside the University’s fitness instructors, has helped to offer live virtual fitness classes on the Leeds Beckett Fitness Facebook page since the start of the pandemic, amassing more than half a million views on the platform since April 2020. Cassie has also been instrumental in providing fitness programmes on campus since the lifting of national restrictions in March.
The Sport & Active Lifestyles department has also been recognised in the Delivering Business Continuity and Success during Covid-19 category. This award looks at how businesses have continued to provide opportunities for its members, including offering physical activities, wellbeing support and other activities to help members continue to engage in physical activity and feel part of their community.
Leeds Beckett University’s Director of Sport & Active Lifestyles Sally Griffiths said "All members of the department have contributed significantly to this nomination."
"Our Athletic Union team and coaches have ensured student athletes remain supported through virtual and social distanced activity, our health and wellbeing experts have provided physical activities to support students and staff remotely, and our administrators have made significant contributions to the university’s Covid-19 response, having worked extensively on the university’s Covid-19 helplines."
"Finally, our managers across the service and dedicated Covid-19 officers have worked tirelessly to support new procedures, they have quickly responded to changes to Government guidance and have ensured our compliance is all relevant and appropriate."
