LBU alumna Georgia Taylor-Brown claims silver in Olympic triathlon
Alumna Georgia Taylor-Brown has claimed a silver medal on her Olympic debut, just 24 hours after fellow Leeds Beckett triathlete Alex Yee achieved the same feat in the men's race.
Georgia made an incredible recovery having suffered a tyre puncture towards the end of the cycle, making up a 22 second deficit behind the leading pack to climb from fifth to second.
Bermuda’s Flora Duffy claimed gold in the event, becoming the first athlete from the nation to win at an Olympic Games.
Georgia will have another opportunity to claim a medal in the Games alongside Alex and Honorary Graduate Jonathan Brownlee in the team relay.
Peter Mackreth, Dean of Carnegie School of Sport said: “We are delighted to see our students, alumni, and Leeds sporting community doing so well at the Tokyo Olympics.
“Everyone at Leeds Beckett is incredibly proud of the small part we’ve played in supporting their journey, whether that be through their studies or by supporting preparations using our state-of-the-art training and research facilities."
