LBU help Leeds Rhinos prepare for Super League season opener
First team players have benefited from cutting-edge performance testing with Leeds Beckett University sports scientists as part of their preparations for the upcoming season. Tests including body fat, muscle mass, and bone density DEXA scans have taken place in the university’s Carnegie School of Sport building.
In addition, students from the BSc (Hons) Sports and Exercise Therapy course have provided a series of sports massage sessions to players at both the Carnegie School of Sport building and the Rhinos’ Kirkstall training base.
Speaking about training at Leeds Beckett University, Leeds Rhinos Head Coach, Richard Agar said: "It's a world class facility. We've done a fair amount of testing up there because it's so big and we've had the ability to get the whole group in there during the incremental weather.
"In pre-season there are long days and heavy schedules, it's been great to have a change of venue to freshen things up and the quality of the facility, it's got a great state of the art gym and lecture theatres, recovery facility, and the boys have really welcomed the change of scenery and venue because it's such a quality place."
While on campus Rhinos players took time out to sit down for interviews and press conferences for a group of first-year Leeds Beckett University Sport Journalism students.
Leeds Beckett University is also supporting Leeds Rhinos with fan engagement work.
The Carnegie School of Sport building boasts a wealth of outstanding facilities including dedicated research laboratories, a hypoxic laboratory, a health and wellbeing studio, a covered rooftop 60m sprint track, enhanced strength and conditioning spaces, and changing and recovery facilities.
The facility at Leeds Beckett University’s Headingley Campus is a base for the Carnegie School of Sport’s undergraduate, postgraduate and research programmes and provides a hub for the elite athletes who use the university’s sports performance expertise.
