LBU validates diploma with Premier League for football coaches
CDIPs are two-year development plans built around the individual needs of coaches in their professional clubs, with assessments being driven by projects that are directly relevant to the practice of the coaches in their context. They cover three separate initiatives:
- The Elite Coach Accreditation Scheme (ECAS) - designed to provide role-enhancing development to academy coaches with high potential to make a positive impact in football.
- The Professional Player to Coach Scheme (PPCS) - an initiative designed to increase the number of former black, Asian and mixed heritage professional players in football coaching roles.
- The Coach Inclusion and Diversity Scheme (CIDS) - an initiative designed to address the historic under-representation of black, Asian and mixed heritage and female coaches.
Leeds Beckett University has been working with the Premier League over the last three years to create a bespoke integrated learning and assessment strategy that offers coaches meaningful, practice-focused, and learning-oriented opportunities to advance knowledge, understanding, attitudes, and skills.
Head of Subject for Sport Coaching in the Carnegie School of Sport, Dr Andrew Abraham, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for us to continue supporting the development of professional football coaches.
“We are particularly keen to support the Premier League in their attempts to increase the number of coaches from underrepresented groups. This is a key goal for us, and we are certain we have much to learn from the Premier League in this area. We are also very keen to learn from the embedded nature of the way this programme will be delivered.”
Marc Canham, Director of Coaching at the Premier League “We are committed to providing coaches with high quality development opportunities and are delighted that our Coach Development Institute Programmes are accredited by Leeds Beckett University. We and look forward to continuing to work together to bring about continuous improvements in coach development across the professional game.”
