Leeds Sports Awards 2022 winners

Leeds Beckett's tennis club were one of four winners from the university to be recognised at the 2022 Leeds Sports Awards
The Leeds Sports Awards celebrates the success of the city’s most famous sports stars and teams, as well as the impact volunteers, coaches and teams have made at community levels.
There were four award winners from Leeds Beckett University honoured for their sporting achievements at international and university levels, as well as fundraising efforts.
Honorary Graduate Rob Burrow MBE headlined an inspirational list of recipients. Rob received the Sporting Pride of Leeds award, for his incredible work raising awareness of Motor Neurone Disease.
Alumna Georgia Taylor-Brown MBE was crowned Leeds Sportswoman of the Year after an incredible Olympics. Georgia won silver in the women’s triathlon Olympic event and was part of the Team GB Mixed Team Relay Triathlon that won gold in the inaugural triathlon relay event at Tokyo 2020.
The Mixed Team Relay Triathlon was also honoured at the Leeds Sports Awards, winning the Club/Team Performance: 18+ award. The team featured Leeds Beckett alumni including Georgia and Alex Yee MBE, Honorary Graduate Jonny Brownlee MBE, and Triathlon Leeds’ Jess Learmonth.
Leeds Beckett University Talent Hub athlete Keely Hodgkinson was Highly Commended in the Sportswoman category after an incredible breakthrough year in athletics, culminating with a silver medal in the women’s 800m event at Tokyo 2020.
One of Keely’s Talent Hub coaches, LBU Head of Athletics Andrew Henderson, also received a Highly Commended award in the Coach: Performance category. Andrew helped train and prepare four of the university’s Talent Hub athletes who competed in the Olympic Games.
Leeds Beckett University’s Tennis Club were awarded with the Student Sport: Performance Award after a stellar campaign in the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) Championships. Leeds Beckett’s Men’s Football Club were also recognised for their BUCS performances by receiving a Highly Commended award in the same category.
