Leeds United return to Carnegie School of Sport for pre-season training
Star players including Patrick Bamford, Jack Harrison, Robin Koch, and new signing Marc Roca were put through their paces by experts at the £45 million hi-tech facility in Headingley. This follows a successful pre-season visit by the Premier League club in July 2021 as part of their preparation for last season.
Players were comprehensively tested over two days, including cardiac screens, weigh-ins, blood checks, body composition measurements, eye exams, assessments of gait, jump performance and muscle strength.
Dr Gareth Nicholson from Leeds Beckett University’s Carnegie School of Sport said: “The state-of-the-art facilities within Carnegie School of Sport form an ideal hub for the launch of pre-season, and also for monitoring and return-to-play assessments throughout the season.
“There are very strong relationships in place between the Carnegie School of Sport and club staff which have helped to ensure that the implementation of sports science at Leeds United remains up-to-date with the latest developments within the field.”
Carnegie School of Sport provides a range of sports performance support to Leeds United which sees Leeds Beckett University academics and students work closely with the first team, the girls' and boys' academies and the commercial services department.
The partnership with the club includes a range of initiatives, from supporting footballers at the top of their profession, right through to community participation programmes like the Leeds United Foundation.
The Carnegie School of Sport building boasts a wealth of outstanding facilities including dedicated research laboratories, composition scanning equipment, the human movement laboratory, a covered rooftop 60m sprint track, enhanced strength and conditioning spaces, and changing and recovery facilities.
The facility at Leeds Beckett University’s Headingley Campus is a base for the Carnegie School of Sport’s undergraduate, postgraduate and research programmes and provides a hub for the elite athletes who use the university’s sports performance expertise.
