Leeds Beckett University supports the release of Honorary Graduate Kevin Sinfield’s Ultra 7 in 7 film.
Following Kevin Sinfield's Ultra 7 in 7 challenge in November to raise money and awareness of MND, Sky Sports will be airing a documentary on Thursday 16 February at 17:00. The Inside Story film follows Kevin's challenge to run seven ultra-marathons in seven days from Murrayfield, Edinburgh to Old Trafford Manchester.
From the start line at Murrayfield to the finish line at Old Trafford, the 90-minute film provides an exclusive behind-the-scenes glimpse of Kevin Sinfield’s epic fundraiser, featuring exclusive interviews, audio recordings and never-before-seen footage from throughout the week-long challenge.
Inspired by fellow Honorary Graduate and former Leeds Rhinos teammate Rob Burrow MBE, Kevin raised more than £2.3 million for MND in his latest challenge, and has surpassed more than £7 million in three years during his 7 in 7 and extra mile challenges.
Supported by Carnegie School of Sport colleagues, the routes for the ultra marathons were devised by academics and PhD students. Senior Research Fellow, Dr Barney Wainwright also provided Kevin with guidance on his training in preparation for the challenge.
The film premiered at Everyman Cinema in Trinity Leeds on Thursday 19 January in support of the MND Association, who fund vital research, to improve access to care and provide support for people affected by MND.
Peter Mackreth, Dean of the Carnegie School of Sport, said “As a three-time graduate of our university we are very proud of Kevin’s many accomplishments, as a player, a coach, and now through his work to raise awareness and funds for motor neurone disease. Our sporting community is founded on the altruistic actions of so many people, and Kevin is a true role model for everyone, supporting his good friend, Rob Burrow and the broader MND community.’’
"As an academic community with a desire to make a difference, I hope our involvement in this challenge and the release of the documentary on Sky will help inspire all who watch it to consider how they can support others."
Jimmy Bray, Head of production at RAM Films said: "We’re absolutely delighted to highlight Kevin Sinfield and his team's heroic efforts while supporting the MND Association. The premiere and documentary are a celebration of Kevin’s trilogy of challenges and a fitting way to crown his and the team's achievements."
The Ultra 7 in 7: The Inside Story will premiere Thursday 16 February at 17:00 on Sky Sports Arena before the Leeds Rhinos game at Warrington Wolves.
