Leeds Beckett University record-breaking scholarships help transform students’ lives
The university’s scholarships aim to support students beyond financial assistance, and where possible, widen access to opportunities through its alumni and corporate networks. Each scholarship offers its own possibilities for students to gain a range of experiences.
Part of this year's awards includes a landmark relationship with property development company Landsec, who have awarded two scholarships of £30,000 each. The two scholarships available are supporting one student studying Real Estate and Property Management and one studying Architecture. Alongside the cash award, these scholarships offer unique and exciting opportunities including a mentorship programme and industry insight and experiences.
For students studying within the Carnegie School of Sport, two Class scholarships are awarded each year. The Carnegie Class of 75-77 and the Carnegie Class of 78-82 Scholarships are supported by alumni of the School of Sport. This year a record total of four scholarships were awarded. This increase in scholarships distributed is thanks to the consistent and continued support of our Carnegie family of alumni donors.
Other notable increases in giving come from LBU’s longstanding partnership with the Halifax Law Society. This year the Society chose to increase its number of gifts from two awards to three.
In addition to these increases in corporate giving, LBU also received an increase in regular giving from our community of donors. For the first time since 2018, the university has been able to award eight Bright Futures Scholarships. This surge in regular monthly giving has ensured that even more students have the chance to unlock their full potential.
The university’s Sir Bob Murray CBE Scholarship helps support students who study finance related courses. First awarded in 2012, this award is generously supported by the Chancellor of Leeds Beckett University, Sir Bob Murray CBE. After final consultation with the Chancellor, four students have been awarded his scholarship.
Leeds Beckett has a range of corporate partners and organisations who support the university’s scholarships programmes.
The Cognni BSc Computer Science Scholarship is supported by Leeds-based software company Cognni. The company has announced their plans to continue their relationship with Leeds Beckett and support future computer science students.
Additionally, the Soroptimist International of Leeds Scholarship is supported by the organisation Soroptimists International. The aim of this award is uplift and support women and girls in STEM-based subjects.
As Leeds Beckett embarks on a new era of academic achievement, the university looks forward to witnessing the incredible accomplishments of scholarship students and the positive influence they will have on local and global communities.
Scholarship applications for the academic year 2024/2025 will open in October. Further information can be found on the Scholarships and Bursaries website.
