University of Leeds
Friday 4 May
Kick-off 3:30pm
Leeds Beckett will face-off against the Gryphons in the final Varsity match of the academic year.
Team mates set to collide in Varsity 2018
The Varsity Cricket match is expected to be a fiery affair with more than just Varsity pride at stake.
Both teams are more than familiar with each other – with both sides fielding members of the Leeds/Bradford MCCU squad.
The Gryphons and Bears teams will be comprised of a mixture of each university’s first team as well as five MCCU players (per team).
Tale of the Tape
Beckett aiming for fourth successive Varsity win
Beckett’s Men’s Cricket team will be hoping to extend their unbeaten Varsity streak as they aim to make it four in a row over Leeds.
2018, however, promises to serve up potentially one of the fiercest encounters yet between the sides with The Gryphons aiming for retribution against Beckett.
Victory for Beckett Cricket this year will not only see them go back-to-back over their rivals but will also send Beckett into an early 3-1 overall Varsity lead.
University of Leeds ready for redemption
University of Leeds’ Cricket team will be hoping to claw one back for their University and to avenge last year’s narrow defeat to Beckett.
The Gryphons are still searching for their first overall Varsity victory and their Cricket team will be looking to give their University every chance of winning Varsity silverware in 2018.
Victory for Leeds would level the overall scores to 2-2 and set up a massive day of fixtures in the 2018 Varsity Festival in October.
Varsity T20 to be played in memory of Tommy Hardman
Leeds Beckett and University of Leeds will be competing in memory of the late Leeds Beckett student Tommy Hardman.
Tommy was in his final year at Beckett studying Sports and Exercise when on 28th November 2012 he tragically passed away in his sleep - five days before his 22nd birthday.
Whilst studying at university, Tommy was selected to play for the Leeds/Bradford MCCU team and played against a number of county teams including Surrey, Sussex and Yorkshire.
The T20 Varsity match will help raise funds and awareness for Tommy's charity CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young).
