Cecily's collaborative creations set to be online hit
Cecily Fearnley, who graduated in 2008, created the company from herhome in Whitby in 2009 by asking Facebook users what sorts of products, smells and ingredients they liked, getting them to test the products andfinally using the site to recruit staff including a web designer andillustrator.
Cecily said: "I hope that by creating collaborative onlinenetworks with my customers, I can make the brand interactive andexciting. I also want to de-mystify natural skincare by educating andinforming customers about what they are putting on to their skin. Eachproduct has been born from a suggestion, whether it is to include acertain ingredient, have a particular smell, or help a specificcomplaint, and this makes the Sweet Cecily's product range completelyunique within the current skincare market.
"By studying Law at university, I set myself up with all theskills to understand the legalities of running a business. Whilst atLeeds Met I studied Employment Law, Consumer Law and Copyright Law(amongst everything else) which have all been very useful, and I alsohave the ability to read and understand the legal information I now comeacross, such as product regulations."
Sweet Cecily's focus on natural skincare products and aim toprovide a personal touch. Cecily has created a range of unusual flavoursand formulations such as her mojito-flavoured lip balm, which have beenlargely generated by the suggestions made in forums on Twitter andFacebook.
