Connecting Enterprising Women and Girls programme launches with exhibition
The event marked the partnership between Leeds Met and CEW, while the Year 12 pupils from Lawnswood Secondary School attended to coincide with the Leeds City Council Inspiring Women conference at Leeds Civic Hall.
The day concluded with the opportunity for the pupils to view part of a portrait exhibition - previously displayed in the Houses of Parliament - on show in Leeds Met's Broadcasting Place. The photos were of girls from Leeds East Academy, David Young Academy and John Smeaton Academy, who had taken part in the 2013 Connecting Girls programme.
Inder Hunjan MBE, Head of Access & Widening Participation at Leeds Met, whose team hosted the event, commented: "The programme aims to help girls from local communities to develop their entrepreneurial skills whilst still in education and to create networking opportunities for women in business to provide mentoring and business expertise for aspiring girls from hard-to-reach communities."
Following the event the Lawnswood pupils were invited to Leeds Civic Hall to view the rest of the exhibition totalling 100 portraits of Connecting Enterprising Women by photographers Nick Gregan and Johanna Hilton.
