Get interactive with social media guest lecture
Our University regularly runs guest lectures featuring high-profile individuals from the professional and business world. Informative, stimulating and even controversial, these talks can open your eyes to what's going on across various sectors, support your professional development and help you build your network of contacts.
An Accredited Practitioner of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR) with an MA in Public Relations, Helen Standing has worked in a variety of communications roles in consultancy and in-house. She specialises in using social media to influence and engage and will talk about the role of social media in the creation of an individual's personal brand. This will link in to the establishment of professional relationships and the realisation of business opportunities through how individuals position themselves online, and how this can help organisations to communicate more effectively.
Helen has been named Yorkshire & Lincolnshire's Outstanding Young Communicator by the CIPR, one of PR Week's "Top 29 under 29" and a finalist for Some Comms' brightest social media communicator under 30. As well as her role as co-director of Engage Comms Ltd, she sits on the CIPR's regional committee as Treasurer and is a mentor and occasional guest lecturer at Leeds Metropolitan University and Sheffield Hallam University.
