Graduate makes essay writing easy with new app
Sam Brandon, who graduated last summer with a first class BA (Hons) Sports Marketing degree from Leeds Met, created the ReferenceMe app with friend, Tom Hatton, after they realised how many marks and how much time they were losing at university by referencing their work incorrectly.
Sam said: "Through my Sports Marketing degree at Leeds Met I had studied topics such as business enterprise planning, digital interactive marketing and marketing communications which all helped in producing the app. We worked extremely well, and hard, within our team to produce something that should save students plenty of time themselves, especially with dissertation deadlines looming!"
To use the app, which is available on the iPhone, iPad and Android for 69p, all you need to do is scan the barcode of the book or journal and the app will instantly display the reference required in the commonly-used Harvard referencing style (or an alternative seven other referencing styles). References can be grouped together into projects and then sent through to a saved essay using email or Facebook.
Sam's dissertation supervisor at Leeds Met, Angela Green, added: "The Sports Marketing course encourages students to think about being enterprising and planning for business so Sam has really used what he's learnt and put it into practice. Whilst working on his dissertation, Sam talked about how it would be great to be able to scan books to instantly get the reference and he is a real entrepreneur to have made this happen."
The app was built by T and Biscuits, a digital media company set up by students from Leeds Met, Oxford, Cambridge and Oxford Brookes universities, and can be downloaded via http://tandbiscuits.co.uk/project/referenceme/ or found on the Apple App Store or Google Play.
