Health professor shortlisted for international award
The annual ceremony, organised by the UK Nursing Standardjournal will be hosted by broadcaster Angela Rippon and held inLondon's Park Lane, Hilton hotel on March 22.
Professor White, said: "It is such an honour to receive thisrecognition as a finalist for this award. There are many excellentresearch teams across the UK, so I'm delighted to be shortlistedfollowing the work I have been involved in."
Last year Professor White led an international team ofacademics to produce The State of Men's Health in Europe Report for theEuropean Commission. The research undertaken suggested that a high levelof premature illness and death amongst men is preventable and warnedthat the state of men's health in Europe is a serious public healthconcern.
Patterns emerging from data taken from 34 European countriesshowed marked differences in health outcomes amongst men both betweenand within countries.
Professor White is currently working with colleagues fromLeeds Met's Carnegie Faculty on an evaluation study of the PremierLeague Health for young men, which is being run through the FootballPremier League in England.
