Jones Lang LaSalle Director receives honorary award
Colin, whose career as a chartered building surveyor spans over ten years, was awarded with an honorary Master of Business Administration degree from the University's Arts Environment and Technology faculty in a ceremony held on 25th July.
From 1998 to 2001, Colin was a student at Leeds Metropolitan University on the BSc (Hons) Building Surveying programme and, following his graduation, has continued to support the University. Notably, over the last two years he has worked to create links with the property industry for students on the BSc Building Surveying and BSc Quantity Surveying programmes helping to establish work placements, guest lectures, workshops with professionals, mentoring and course development.
Speaking about his award Colin Harrop said: "It was a real honour to receive the award, it's a great University and I'm really pleased to be part of today and to celebrate with the students graduating today. I'm absolutely thrilled that I can play a small part in it and hopefully will continue to be associated with the University for the rest of my career."
Jeff Pearey, head of Jones Lang LaSalle's Leeds office, added: "On behalf of his colleagues and the firm, I'd like to congratulate Colin on this fantastic achievement.
"Colin has taken his position over the years as an ambassador to the University and indeed the property industry very seriously. Not only has he continued to support his former place of study, Colin also sits on the Yorkshire and Humber Regional Board of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, and is also a Yorkshire Patron and a member of the steering group for the Yorkshire Construction Sector Network."
The graduation celebrations are taking place at the University's Headingley Campus from Monday23 to Friday 27 July, where over 5,000 students will graduate over five days, alongside ten honorary degree recipients.
Others receiving honorary degrees from Leeds Metropolitan include England rugby union head coach Stuart Lancaster, Harry Potter actor Matthew Lewis, Red or Dead designer Wayne Hemmingway, Olympic torch designer Edward Barber, Huddersfield Town chairman Dean Hoyle and Mumtaz Khan Akbar is the founder and owner of the Mumtaz Food Group.
