Magazine launched for language lovers
Finalyear Language Studies (French & International Relations) student, SarahFrangos, decided to set up the magazine to promote enthusiasm towards languagelearning and to develop a sense of community and inclusion for those studyinglanguages at the University.
Asshe explains: "I love the sense of pride I get when being able to communicatewith someone from another country. Wedecided to produce the magazine to gain further employability skills and tocreate a wider community through language learning."
Sarahcontinues: "We have regular articles written in the University's major4languages, French, German, Spanish and English every month. We also decided toinclude regular features such as language pathways (information about careeropportunities for language students), travel articles and the 'Language of themonth', which focusses on one of the many other languages taught at Leeds Metand will include a short article with an English translation and a food reciperelating to that country. We're also including other things such as informationabout social events organised by the Language Assistants and students. Another feature is 'Theo's Quote of TheMonth', written by French tutorTheophile Munyangeyo, who is full of inspirational quotes and a 'Your YearAbroad' which will focus on a Leeds Met final year student who has completedtheir compulsory year abroad.
Theeditorial team are currently looking for other students to get involved andthere is space for guest contributors in forthcoming editions.
Sarahsays: "It's important that people get involved with the social events too sothey can meet other like-minded students and native speakers of their targetlanguage. University is a community with so muchto do, so many people tomeet, so much fun learning to be doneand we should try to take advantageof the many benefits offered to us."
