Magazine launched for language lovers
Final year Language Studies (French & International Relations) student, Sarah Frangos, decided to set up the magazine to promote enthusiasm towards language learning and to develop a sense of community and inclusion for those studying languages at the University.
As she explains: "I love the sense of pride I get when being able to communicate with someone from another country. We decided to produce the magazine to gain further employability skills and to create a wider community through language learning."
Sarah continues: "We have regular articles written in the University's major4languages, French, German, Spanish and English every month. We also decided to include regular features such as language pathways (information about career opportunities for language students), travel articles and the 'Language of the month', which focusses on one of the many other languages taught at Leeds Met and will include a short article with an English translation and a food recipe relating to that country. We're also including other things such as information about social events organised by the Language Assistants and students. Another feature is 'Theo's Quote of The Month', written by French tutor Theophile Munyangeyo, who is full of inspirational quotes and a 'Your Year Abroad' which will focus on a Leeds Met final year student who has completed their compulsory year abroad.
The editorial team are currently looking for other students to get involved and there is space for guest contributors in forthcoming editions.
Sarah says: "It's important that people get involved with the social events too so they can meet other like-minded students and native speakers of their target language. University is a community with so much to do, so many people to meet, so much fun learning to be done and we should try to take advantage of the many benefits offered to us."
