Play like a pro with PhD student's new golfing app
The Pre-Shot Club Golfer app is the second app created by Jon Finn, creator of the Pre-Shot Training Programme. The new app is aimed at weekend golfers who want to improve their ability to play under pressure and is inspired by McIlroy's emphatic win at the 2012 US PGA Championship which highlighted the way in which he has learnt to control his mental game since his dramatic collapse in the final round at the Masters in 2011.
The app is effectively a golf psychology coach in your pocket which trains players how to think before, during and after they hit a golf shot. It is based on Jon's Pre-Shot Training Programme, which has a generic framework that can be matched with any player's personal preferences, making it suitable for all types and standards of golfer, from weekend amateur to tour professional. Golfers should start with the new Pre-Shot Club Golfer App, and can then progress to the Golf Pre-Shot Pro App which was launched in May this year.
The Pre-Shot Training Programme, created by Jon Finn, who is also a Visiting Research Fellow at Leeds Met, has been given the seal of approval by leading PGA coaches offering Pre-Shot lessons, including Cookridge Hall's PGA Coach, Mark Pinkett. His original training programme is currently used by anyone training to be a professional golf coach in Great Britain and Ireland.
Jon commented: "The pre-shot training system is a hugely powerful psychological training tool. It makes golfers think effectively when they're on the golf course and helps them manage their confidence, concentration and deal with pressure. As we saw at The Open, pressure can have a big impact on the way that players think. If Adam Scott had been better able to control his thoughts would he have won The Open? The Pre-Shot apps are so much better than buying a general golf book off the shelf because they can be uniquely tailored to anybody's game."
