Students host charity Battle of the Bands
Second year students; Adam Garrod, Amanda Cooper, Kirshley Paul, Lucy Brackpool, Mary Rose Scullin and Samantha Beverley, organised the event as part of their Professional Events Solution module in which students are challenged to plan and implement an event which will raise awareness and funds for a charitable organisation of their choice.
The event took place at Santiago's in Leeds and featured four local bands battling head to head for a number of prizes which included both a Tenor guitar and an acoustic guitar, a live photo shoot from a professional photographer and four hours free all inclusive rehearsal time.
Adam Garrod, commented: "We are very happy with how the Battle of the Bands went and are happy to announce that we raised a total of £520 for local charity, Radio Aire & Magic 828's Cash for Kids. We would like to thank all the bands for taking part, Cash for Kids for all their help in the run-up to the event and Northern Acoustics, Dawson's Music, 309 Studio's and James West Photography for their sponsorship. We would also like to thank Santiago's for hosting us and everyone else who has given up their time and effort free of charge to help us throughout the event - we couldn't have done it without you!"
Over 40 events by Leeds Met students are taking place, which have been created from their charities brief while being mentored by UK Centre for Events Management lecturers, including Live at Leeds Festival, 20/20 cricket and a Vintage Fashion Show.
