Students on hand to massage at half marathon
Twelve students on masters degrees in Osteopathy and Sports Therapy at Leeds Met will be providing post-event massage at the Half Marathon.
Senior Lecturer in Rehabilitation and Health Sciences at Leeds Met, Aaron Caseley, commented: "Osteopathy is much more than correcting back problems and we are keen to show this and to promote the diverse array of healthcare-related courses at Leeds Met.
"Massage is a recognised way of improving recovery following strenuous exercise, such as running a marathon! It should also prevent runners from waking on Monday morning with that all too familiar stiffness and soreness in their legs following the event."
The Leeds Half Marathon is the first of several large running events that Leeds Metropolitan Osteopathy students will be supporting this year, with the Jane Tomlinson Run for All and Great North Run also being lined up.
Aaron added: "These events will give students invaluable experience in providing soft tissue massage, one of the many skills that they develop over the course of their four-year masters programme."
