Students set for Northern Ballet winter Waltzer
The event, entitled 'Waltzer', will get underway at 4pm on Tuesday 18 December in the venue's Stanley and Audrey Burton Theatre. It is open to the public and will premiere first and second year BA (Hons) Dance students' coursework.
Course Leader Rachel Krische, commented: "Our students have worked exceptionally hard in preparation for the performance. This is the first event the University has done of its kind and we are thrilled our students will get the opportunity to experience working in a professional environment."
Second year students have been working with choreographer and international dance artist, Anna Williams, to create two new original pieces of work which will be premiered at the event.
Additionally, Rachel and Senior Lecturer Beth Cassani have put together a collage out of first year student mini choreographies, created during their first semester at Leeds Met. For this work there will also be an original sound score, produced in collaboration with Rees Archibald and Kingsley Ash, Senior Lecturers in the School of Film, Music and Performing Arts.
Head of School, Andrew Fryer, said: "In the run-up to Christmas, this dance showcase promises to be a fantastic event for our students, staff and members of the public who attend. At Leeds Metropolitan University we pride ourselves on the outstanding talent of our dance undergraduates and this is the perfect opportunity for them to shine, centre-stage."
This is a free performance but places are limited. If you would like to attend the performance at Northern Ballet please contact eventsteam@leedsmet.ac.uk to confirm your place.
