Universities to battle for Varsity honours
The annual sporting competition will take place today (2 October) where students from both Universities will compete in 22 different sports across one spectacular day of competition hosted this year at Leeds Met's Headingley Campus.
Lisa McCormick, Student Sports Representative at Leeds Metropolitan University said: "Varsity combines sporting talent, friendship, passion and pride across a range of sports and as this year's host the pressure is really on to retain the Varsity title for the ninth consecutive year. After seven years of Leeds Met domination in the competition, Leeds University put in some epic performances last year to hold us to a draw but I have every belief that our teams will once again step up to the mark and showcase what sport is about at Leeds Met."
Over 50 fixtures will take place from a range of sports which even includes Ultimate Frisbee and Lacrosse, ensuring the most inclusive and diverse one-day Varsity event across the country.
The finale event will culminate in a head to head battle of the two talented rugby union teams at Headingley Carnegie Stadium for a fantastic evening of entertainment and competition. Gates open at 5pm, followed by kick-off at 7pm. Tickets are £10 and can be purchased from the Leeds Met Sports Office, Headingley Campus or online right up to KO by visiting www.leedsvarsity.com.
A full list of day fixtures can be found on the Leeds Varsity website.
