Webmart CEO to talk capitalism and Marxism at Leeds Met
The free public event, hosted by Leeds Business School, will take place from 6-7pm on Tuesday 26 November at the University's Rose Bowl.
Simon and his team have grown Webmart (www.webmartuk.com) from an initial investment of £10,000 into a multi-million turnover business and success story. The business is now known as one of the most innovative print media companies in the UK.
Simon commented: "To be successful now and in the future, it's about engaging the very best people you can, both within and crucially outside of your business, in three ways: emotionally, intellectually and financially. By approaching business in this way we make every interaction a two-way win.
"Hopefully in this lecture I can introduce a new way for people to look at their business, career or not-for-profit, to make the most of every opportunity that comes their way."
In his guest lecture Simon will share his thoughts and experiences on building a successful business and how his principle of a capitalist business, founded on Marxist principles, is delivering above-average returns. He will also share why he made his own charitable foundation, why he did not want to be a secret millionaire and why he pays his team to learn non-business skills.
Simon's drive has resulted in him and his team investigating learning opportunities across the globe, with a strategy for team development that is the envy of many larger companies.
Paul Houghton, Principal Lecturer in Accounting and Finance at Leeds Met, commented: "This is the seventh and final session in Leeds Business School's public guest lecture series before Christmas and I could not be more thrilled to be concluding with Simon Biltcliffe.
"Since 1996 Simon has been putting his money where his mouth is, shaping his business around his personal ethos that Marxism and Capitalism together are unbeatable, sharing profits among employees and ensuring that both customers and suppliers gain as a result of Webmart's trading activity. This lecture will be a brilliant opportunity to hear about Simon's career and how he has maintained success and continues to drive his business forward."
