Animations & Interaction

  • The Leeds Beckett University website occasionally uses animations to page elements and animated gifs to add impact to pages. If you wish to stop them from playing for accessibility purposes or for personal preference then please see the guidance below. Please note that browsers sometimes change how they operate, so please refer to your browser help files to find their latest information.

  • How do I turn off animations?
    Chrome

    Chrome users will need to use browser extensions. Animation Policy from Google will help you set your own preferences.

    Microsoft Edge

    There is currently no way to disable animations within Microsoft Edge. Users of Edge (Chromium) browser can install the Chrome extensions above and use them.

    Internet Explorer

    To stop animations on a single page you can just press the 'Esc' key. This will stop the animation on that page. If you wish to restart the animations you need to refresh the page. To permanently disable the playing of animated GIF images, open Internet Options > Advanced tab. Under the Multimedia section, uncheck the Play animations in webpage check-box, click Apply and Exit and then restart your computer.

    Firefox

    Type about:config in Firefox address bar and hit Enter to open Settings. Search for the image.animation_mode flag and change its value from Normal to None. Once you restart Firefox this will disable animations.

Leaders CONNECT

As part of our LBU Leader development offer, the POD Team organise a number of tailored Leaders Connect events.

Each event focusses on a particular topic and includes a series of short case studies from LBU leaders, sharing their reflections on the topic and details of local initiatives. It's also an important networking opportunity, giving colleagues the chance to share ideas, challenge thinking and learn from each other's experiences.  

If you are the target audience for the particular Leaders Connect you will receive an email from us as and when events are scheduled. So typically there is nothing you need to do to get involved (aside from booking your place following the invite and then attending on the day). 

We are always open to any feedback and ideas you might have about our approach or future sessions, if you want to get in touch with us at POD@leedsbeckett.ac.uk.

We would also love it if you have a leadership story or experience you feel might be a useful topic for a future event, if you would be willing to discuss and share this.   

Below is an overview of our current Leaders Connect approach and details of upcoming and past events.

UPCOMING EVENTS

Our next Leaders Connect events will take place in 2024/25, with dates for both our Senior Leaders Connect and Leaders Events to be confirmed.  Both events will focus on a specific topic and will begin with a series of short case studies from LBU Leaders, followed by group discussions. Once scheduled, invites will be sent out to colleagues in the target audience via an email from POD@leedsbeckett.ac.uk

PAST LEADERS CONNECT EVENTS

Leading and supporting our colleagues through major change

The final Leaders Connect events of 2023/24 took place in May and June and explored the topic of 'Leading and supporting major change'.

20 senior managers from across the university attended the Senior Leaders Connect event on 22nd May.

Then, on the 12th June, over 40 first-line and middle managers attended the Leaders Connect event covering the same topic.

wellbeing

The first Leaders Connect events of 2024 took place in March and explored the topic of 'Wellbeing and your role as a leader'.

Over 20 senior managers from across the university attended the Senior Leaders Connect event on13th March.

Then, on the 20th March, around 35 first-line and middle managers attended the Leaders Connect event covering the same topic.

Developing self and others

The final Leaders Connect events of 2023 were held in November and explored the topic of Developing Self and Others.

Over 20 senior managers from across the university attended the event on 9th November.

An event covering the same topic but aimed at first-line and middle managers, supervisors and team leaders then took place on 15th November, which over 40 colleagues from across the university attending.

COMMUNICATION

The second Leaders Connect events covered the topic of Communication.

An event aimed at first-line and middle managers, supervisors and team leaders took place on 11th July 2023. Over 20 colleagues from across the university attended.

Unfortunately an event covering the same topic for senior managers was scheduled for June 2023 but had to be cancelled due to unforeseen circumstance. 

PILOT EVENT - ENGAGEMENT, BELONGING AND VOICE

The first Leaders Connect event was held on 25th January 2023, aimed at senior managers. Over 40 colleagues from across the university attended.

An event covering the same topic but aimed at first-line and middle managers, supervisors and team leaders then took place on 28th February 2023. 25 colleagues from across the university attended.

Following the success of these pilot events, further events were scheduled.
